Every day we continue advancing in our understanding of the many ways in which children learn and develop. Young children are curious and active. Sometimes they have difficulty learning to control their bodies and behavior. They crave structure and thrive best in environments that are supportive, educational, and fun. At Helena ATA, our Tiger program is an essential way to enhance the growth and development of pre-school and kindergarten-aged children while providing them with a fun activity.
Designed specifically for children ages 4 through 7 years old, ATA Tigers utilizes the discipline of Songahm Taekwondo to instill a strong foundation in the education and development of life skills, such as a positive mental attitude, high goal setting, perseverance, and confidence. Along the way, we strive to teach the same values parents teach at home, like courtesy, respect, and discipline. In addition, the program is designed to improve children's motor skills and enhance their ability to pay attention and follow directions. This program is built to feel more relatable for Tiger students and provide strong visual cues to help them align their achievements and goals.
The rank and testing system used by the Tigers is slightly different than our other programs. Tigers can earn eight different animal belts representing a new rank: Tiger, Cheetah, Lion, Eagle, Phoenix, Dragon, Cobra, and Panther. Along with each belt rank, Tigers can earn a collectible patch to wear on their uniform. Tigers can also earn “victory stars” for achievements on the mat, at home, and in school that can be displayed on four different victory patches.
It is our mission at Helena ATA to help you raise confident, focused young leaders through the life-transforming experience that is martial arts. To learn more about ATA Tigers or sign your child up for the program, please contact us today!
Benefits of Martial Arts for Young Children
Fosters Self-Discipline One of the central tenets of all forms of the martial arts is an absolute focus on self-discipline.
Boosts Socialization Skills Kids find it easier to make new friends when they get to know each other through a shared pursuit.
Encourages Physical Activity Provides an enjoyable activity that keeps kids moving and healthy.
Learn to Set and Achieve Goals Belt testing provides an excellent exercise for kids in setting and achieving goals.
Increased Self-Esteem Confidence comes with achievement, so your child's self-esteem level will get a boost with every new move they master and every belt they earn.
Improve Focus and Self-Control Complex physical activities, like martial arts, have proven to strengthen the brain’s neural networks, helping kids improve their focus and self-control. This can be especially beneficial for kids with ADD/ADHD.
Instills a Sense of Respect The traditional nature of martial arts teaches kids respect in their classes, whether they are taking a bow or waiting patiently for the next set of instructions. This sense of respect also helps kids improve their grades, while improving their listening skills at home and in school.
Develops Teamwork Skills Whether they’re breaking boards to get a new belt or sparring in a practice setting to master a new maneuver, there are few things that your child does in martial arts classes that will be done on their own.
Improving Listening Skills In order to master new skills and advance through the belt ranks, your child will have to exercise superior listening skills.
Encourages Non-Violent Conflict Resolution Many defensive styles teach kids peaceful, non-violent conflict resolution skills and emphasize the importance of avoiding a physical altercation.
